We’re thrilled to have secured exclusive use of an historic villa nestling in the hills above the beautiful city of Siena in Italy, from 6-10 April 2022, for a special trip to suit experienced singers. Villa Le Tolfe is situated in its own vineyards and olive groves; it has its own open-air swimming pool (unheated), good rehearsal facilities and an excellent, wood-fired pizza oven. There will be optional tours of the olive groves and oil making workshop, of the villa itself whose roots go back to the 6th century and of the vineyard; the villa has an honesty wine cellar.  It is within easy reach of Siena, where attendees will perform a concert in the University Chapel on the Saturday afternoon accompanied by a period ensemble from the city.

Directed by Manvinder Rattan, this trip is designed for singers who’ve amassed a fair amount of choral experience and who have good notation reading ability; it will include Handel’s Dixit Dominus and Buxtehude Der Herr ist mit mir. There will be a mixture of rehearsal and leisure time, too. The package includes:

  • Bed & breakfast accommodation in a combination of single/twin/double rooms, although single rooms are very limited
  • Two lunches, two dinners, all day tea and coffee, plus a plentiful supply of homemade cake!
  • Opportunities for guided tours of the vineyards, historic villa and olive groves

Participants are asked to make their own flight and transfer arrangements to allow maximum flexibility as to where to fly to (Pisa, Florence or Bologna) and because coaches do not cope well with the roads approaching the villa. This will probably involve hiring a car from your chosen airport and hopefully sharing the costs with other members of the group arriving with you, we’ll help you team up if you’re travelling alone. It also gives you the chance to explore the beautiful environs of Siena in your leisure time. All participants must provide their own travel insurance.

This trip will suit experienced singers with good sight-reading ability and good vocal skills. If in doubt, please follow this link and consider whether you are able to sing this movement of Handel.  We are fortunate to have Suzzie Vango with us to provide vocal coaching to support our learning. There may be some opportunities for solos, please indicate your preference on the application form.  Participants should procure their own copy of the Handel (Bärenreiter edition) and copies of the Buxtehude will be dispatched to allow plenty of time for pre-trip preparation. The trip will be oversubscribed and places will be allocated as fairly as possible taking into account the balance of voices. There are very few single rooms and will usually be allocated for medical reasons only. Please provide evidence of such when applying if required. Applications will close on 1.2.22 so that participants have plenty of time to book good-value flights. Please do not make flight commitments before then. If, after your place has been confirmed, you cancel your booking, you may be liable for the full cost of your place if it cannot be sold on.

COVID-19
We will do everything we can to ensure the safety of participants and staff. The venue is COVID-secure, and we will have COVID procedures and social distancing measures in place throughout the trip, as required. Full refunds will be issued if the course is cancelled in advance due to COVID regulations. However, in accordance with the event terms and conditions, Sing for Pleasure is not liable in the event of participants being required to self-isolate (either due to a positive test or test and trace contact). As such, we strongly encourage all participants to take out relevant insurance to ensure they are covered in this eventuality. Please note, the deadline for cancellations is 1st March, after which they will be non-refundable.
