Young Conducting Scholarship Programme 2025-26

Sing for Pleasure is delighted to open applications for its acclaimed Young Conducting Scholarship 2025–26 on Friday 29 August.

This specially-designed, year-long programme offers promising young musicians aged 1825 funded places on our courses, plus one-to-one mentoring and support to further develop their skills.

We are grateful to all our current members, who support the Young Conductors fund, enabling scholars to improve their skills and develop their work with choirs, building confidence, networks and aspiration to inspire and lead with excellence. (If you’re interested in supporting this work, we’d be delighted to hear from you – marketing@singforpleasure.org.uk).

Sing for Pleasure is committed to increasing representation of conductors and vocal leaders from global majority backgrounds in the UK choral leadership. Each year, we aim to offer at least two scholarships for aspiring conductors and vocal leaders from global majority backgrounds, supporting access to our training programmes and wider community.

“I applied for a Young Conductor’s Scholarship with SfP to work on my conducting, in order to help me make and lead music-making. I came out with so much more than that – not only did my conducting improve in ways that I never knew it needed to, but I also learnt so much about choirs and how to lead and teach them. SfP has widened my musical horizons hugely, encouraging me to explore different genres and styles, all of which helped reinforce the skills I was building across the board, granting me a wide-ranging and effective toolkit for any situation. Most of all, SfP has made me part of a huge network of amazing musicians and friends who prove an endless source of both support and inspiration, and who I hope to work and make music with for the rest of my life.” Pip Alpin, YCS Scholar 2024–25

“Since being awarded the Young Conducting Scholarship with Sing for Pleasure, I have grown enormously as a choral leader. The experience has given me greater self-confidence on and off the podium, deepened my understanding of how to inspire and support singers, and connected me with an incredible network of musicians and mentors who continue to shape my journey. It has been a truly transformative opportunity that has enriched both my leadership and my love of choral music, as well as inspiring me to pursue a career as a choral leader.” Charlotte Whysall, YCS Scholar 2024–25

“I was so excited and humbled to have received a Sing for Pleasure scholarship and have been so grateful for all of the opportunities it has afforded me. The courses I have had the pleasure of attending have been so beneficial for my development as a conductor and have helped me to build a supportive community whilst making friends for life! The nature of the courses I have participated in has been so warm and welcoming, highly informative and incredibly constructive. Being an SfP scholar this year has not only transformed my skillset, but has also given me so much confidence, which I will be able to use moving forward as a music educator. I couldn’t be more grateful for being part of such a wonderful programme!” Chloe Chatburn, YCS Scholar 2024–25
