Jill Hamnett (1935–2025)

We were saddened to hear of the death of Jill Hamnett. We’re grateful to Ken Lee for sharing his memories of Jill. He writes:

It was with great sadness that I heard of the passing of Jill Hamnett, one of the most enthusiastic supporters of ‘Sing for Pleasure’ I have ever met.
Jill was so determined to participate in the 60th celebrations that she took a taxi from Rochdale into Manchester!

I have had the privilege of knowing Jill since the early 1980’s when we worked together  on children’s singing days (too numerous to count) which she organised and conducted on. It was a pleasure to be able to work alongside her.

Jill was a true professional with considerable musicianship skills. Her infectious enthusiasm shone through at all times. Above all, she was a genuinely caring and helpful person. If you were in need she was there for you.

Hundreds and hundreds of children over the years will have benefited from her devotion to teaching music. I am so thankful to have known her. She will be greatly missed.

May she rest in peace.
