The cumulation of our singing trip to York will be a concert of Bach and Handel in the York St John University Chapel and we’d LOVE to see you there.
Join us for an evening of extraordinary music, presenting the works of two of the greatest composers in history, Johann Sebastian Bach and Franz Joseph Haydn. Under the direction of Manvinder Rattan, the choir and orchestra will showcase their exceptional talents, bringing these timeless compositions to life. All proceeds will go towards SfP’s work supporting young conductors.
The concert programme features Haydn’s majestic Te Deum in C (Hob. XXIIIc:2), a work that exemplifies the composer’s signature style. Joyful and exuberant, choir and orchestra will transport the audience to 18th-century Austria.
As the evening continues, the orchestra will perform Bach’s Orchestral Suite No. 3 (BWV 1068), a breathtaking piece which highlights Bach’s genius and knowledge from across the continent. The suite features the well-known movement ‘Air on the G String’.
The concert culminates with Bach’s brilliant Magnificat (BWV 243), a choral masterpiece that showcases the composer’s masterful use of counterpoint and harmonic invention. This performance is not be missed, with talented soloists lending their voices to this exceptional work.
